Taxi from Heemskerk to Zaandam
The shortest ride we make to a city, and at the same time not the quickest. That is down to the first few kilometres: they run along country roads through Assendelft before you reach the A8.
- Heemskerk
- Assendelft
- A8
- Zaandam
± 18 km± 22 min
Price known in advance. Drive time outside rush hour, measured over the road — not as the crow flies.
The route: shorter, but not faster
Eighteen kilometres to Zaandam, against twenty to Alkmaar. Yet you arrive in Alkmaar a minute sooner. The reason lies in the first half of this ride: from Heemskerk the Communicatieweg runs through Assendelft, and that is a country road with junctions and a lower limit.
Only then comes the A8, and that lasts just five kilometres before you drive into Zaandam. So it is a ride of two halves: gently across the polder first, then a short stretch of motorway.
There is an upside to that. No tunnel, no ring road, and the A8 is short enough that it rarely comes to a complete standstill. What can disappoint are the last few kilometres through Zaandam itself.
Why people book this ride
Zaandam station is a junction: from there trains run to Amsterdam, to Alkmaar and to Enkhuizen. If you have a connection to catch and would rather not go round via Uitgeest first, a taxi puts you on the platform sooner.
And then there is the Zaanse Schans, a quarter of an hour past the station. For visitors from abroad staying with you that is the outing of the day — out in the morning, back whenever it suits. Parking there is paid, and in season it is full.
