Taxi to the Felison Terminal
The DFDS ferry and the cruise ships are not in the same place in IJmuiden. We take you to the quay where your ship is, with your luggage, and collect you there again as well.
Day and night, weekends included.
Two quays, and it makes a quarter of an hour’s difference
They are both called Felison, but they are two addresses. Anyone dropped at the ferry with a cruise ticket still has the harbour to cross.
- The ferry to Newcastle
- Felison Ferry Terminal, Sluisplein 33
- This is where the daily DFDS boat leaves from and arrives. If you are not taking a car across, you check in inside the terminal.
- Cruise ships
- Monnickendamkade and Volendamskade, Buitenhaven
- A different quay from the ferry, further along towards the North Sea. If there is a cruise ship in, this is the address — not the Sluisplein.
Not sure which of the two? Give us the name of your ship or the shipping line when you book, and we will work it out. That is our job, not yours.
If it is crew signing off, the ride runs differently — past border control at the Sluisplein and then on to Schiphol. That is on our page about crew change in IJmuiden.

Before check-in closes
DFDS state that check-in opens at 13:00 and closes at 16:45. We work back from that closing time and not from the ship’s departure, because anyone arriving after it does not travel.
From Heemskerk and the area around it, it is a ride of just under half an hour. We allow for the rush hour and for the locks; they are not there for decoration.
Check the times of your own crossing with DFDS. A timetable does shift now and then, and theirs is the one that counts.
A different building, two kilometres away
The Felison Cruise Terminal stands on the Monnickendamkade in the Buitenhaven, not at the Sluisplein where the ferry leaves. Anyone who needs to be here and is dropped at the ferry terminal is a quarter of an hour from their ship.
Give us the name of your ship or the shipping line when you book. Then we drive straight to the right quay and set you down where you board, with the suitcases out of the boot rather than off your lap.

When you come ashore
Agree with us when you book roughly what time you expect to be out, and we will be there. How long disembarking takes depends on the ship and on how many people are getting off at once — give us the name of your ship, and do ring from the quay if it runs differently.
Many people have somewhere else to be after the boat. Schiphol for a connecting flight, Amsterdam, or an address further out in the country. We drive that in one go; you do not have to change over with your suitcases.
You see the amount beforehand
Which of the two applies depends on the direction. Either way you know the amount before you commit to anything.

Frequently asked questions
Which terminal do I need?
If you are taking the DFDS ferry to Newcastle, that is the Felison Ferry Terminal at the Sluisplein. If you are boarding a cruise ship, that lies at the Monnickendamkade or the Volendamskade in the Buitenhaven — a different place. Give us the name of your ship or the shipping line when you book and we will work it out.
What time should we leave for the boat to England?
DFDS state that check-in opens at 13:00 and closes at 16:45; the ship leaves after that. We work back from check-in closing and not from the departure time, because anyone arriving after 16:45 does not travel. Do check the times of your own crossing with DFDS — they can shift.
Can you collect us when the boat arrives?
Yes. Agree the time with us when you book and we will be there. What time you are actually outside depends on the ship and on how quickly it disembarks, so give us the name of your ship and do ring from the quay if things run differently.
Will our suitcases fit?
Hardly anyone travels light for a cruise. The van takes eight people with the luggage behind them, so nothing has to go on anyone’s lap. Tell us when you book how many of you there are and how many cases are coming, and we will send the right car.
Do you also drive on from the terminal to Schiphol?
Yes, and it is a ride we do often: off the boat in the morning and on a plane the same day. From IJmuiden to Schiphol a fixed price from our table does apply. We also drive to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, The Hague or an address further out in the country.
What does a ride to the terminal cost?
That depends on where you are coming from. The fixed prices on this site apply to Schiphol; to IJmuiden we work out the route. Enter your address in the booking form and you see the amount before you commit to anything.
To the boat or off the boat?
Give us your ship or the shipping line, and we will know which quay you need.
