Velsen is not a village but seven of them, and they are not all the same distance from the airport. So there is no single price for Velsen — below is what the ride from your own village costs.

Car is a saloon or estate for 1 to 4 people, van is the Mercedes V-Class for 5 to 8. Both prices apply to the return journey as well.
Seven villages and six rows: Santpoort-Noord and Santpoort-Zuid share one fare, because the difference in kilometres is too small to justify two separate fares. If you live in either, the Santpoort row applies.
The driving times were measured without traffic — in the morning rush it takes longer, and we allow for that when planning.
The canal cuts Velsen in two
The North Sea Canal runs right through the municipality. Velsen-Noord lies on one side, the rest on the other, and the Velsertunnel runs between them. That is exactly why Velsen-Noord is further from Schiphol than Velsen-Zuid, even though on the map they lie opposite each other.
We work with the actual route by road, through the Velsertunnel.
This corner is awkward by train. Driehuis, Santpoort-Noord and Santpoort-Zuid have a station, but from any of them Schiphol means changing at Haarlem. IJmuiden has had no passenger train at all since 1983, and Velsen-Noord is on the wrong side of the canal. With luggage and an early flight that makes for a long morning.

The railway does not stop everywhere
Three villages with a station
There are three stations in the municipality: Driehuis, Santpoort Noord and Santpoort Zuid, all three on the Haarlem – Uitgeest local line. If you live there, the train gets you a long way — though Schiphol always means changing.
Three villages without a station
There is no station in IJmuiden, Velserbroek and Velsen-Noord. With a suitcase and a morning flight, one car at the door makes all the difference there.
The ferry across the canal does run day and night, every twenty minutes. It is there for pedestrians, cyclists and mopeds, which are not allowed through the Velsertunnel. We do not use it: a taxi takes the tunnel.
Frequently asked questions
Why does Velsen-Noord cost more than Velsen-Zuid?
Because the North Sea Canal lies between them. On the map they are opposite each other, but a car has to go through the Velsertunnel: Velsen-Zuid is 23.1 kilometres from Schiphol and Velsen-Noord 25.4. Those 2.3 kilometres are the difference in the fare, and nothing else.
Which villages have a station?
Three: Driehuis, Santpoort Noord and Santpoort Zuid, all three on the Haarlem – Uitgeest local line. IJmuiden, Velserbroek and Velsen-Noord have none. The line to IJmuiden closed in September 1983; anyone living there starts every rail journey with a bus or a car.
I live in Santpoort-Zuid — which fare applies?
The Santpoort one. Santpoort-Noord and Santpoort-Zuid share a single row in the table, because the difference in kilometres is too small to justify two separate fares. So you pay the same as your neighbours on the other side of the line.
Do you drive from Velsen at night as well?
Yes, and with no surcharge — the same amount as during the day, Sundays and public holidays included. That is not a given in this municipality: at night there is little public transport in Velsen.
How long does the driver wait at Schiphol for the ride back to Velsen?
The first 45 minutes after landing are included; after that we charge € 59.41 per hour. How long you are then on the road depends on your village: about 20 minutes to Velsen-Zuid outside the rush hour, and half an hour to Santpoort.
Can I pick someone up in another village of Velsen on the way?
Yes, you can enter up to three stops, for instance Velserbroek first and then Santpoort. The fare per village then no longer applies: the booking form works out the whole route. If a stop is in Velsen-Noord, the route goes through the Velsertunnel, not on the ferry.
Can a folding wheelchair come in the taxi from Velsen?
Yes. Folded, it travels in the boot, and that costs nothing extra. There is no ramp or lift in our cars; you transfer to an ordinary seat. Especially in IJmuiden, Velserbroek and Velsen-Noord, which have no station, that saves a bus ride with a wheelchair.
Can I have a business ride from Velsen invoiced?
Yes, in the company name. When you book, say in the Note field which name and address the invoice should go to. You pay the fixed fare for your village from the table, the same as a private passenger, whether you get in at Velsen-Zuid or at Santpoort.
