Wheelchair taxi in Heemskerk
We drive ordinary saloon cars. Your folding wheelchair goes in the boot and the driver helps you in and out. If you would rather stay seated in your wheelchair for the journey, you need a wheelchair-accessible van with a ramp — and we do not have one.
No surcharge. Helping is part of the job.
What you can expect from us
- The driver helps you in and out
- He comes to the door, offers an arm and waits until you are settled. No sounding the horn from the road — that is not a service, that is just a taxi ride.
- Your folding wheelchair comes along
- Folded up in the boot, and at the other end it is ready for you again. A walking frame or crutches just as well.
- No surcharge
- The same fare as any other ride. To Schiphol the fixed price for your town, and within the area the ordinary fare. Helping costs nothing extra.
- Someone may come with you
- A carer, partner or relative travels along at no cost. With more than four people we send a van.
Where we take you
Any address, near or far. The rides we are asked for most are the hospital and the airport — the Rode Kruis Ziekenhuis in Beverwijk, the Spaarne Gasthuis, or Schiphol at the fixed price for your town. But just as readily to family, to the hairdresser, or to a birthday on the other side of the village. A short ride is no lesser ride to us; see local rides for how that is worked out.
Who pays for the ride?
Are you travelling on an allowance or out of a budget? Then it depends on where that money comes from.
- UWV, for private journeys
- You get a fixed sum each year into your own account and choose who drives you. For that you can simply ring us.
- UWV, for work or study
- UWV only reimburses that with a taxi firm from their own approved list, and we are not on it. Better that you know now than afterwards.
- Personal budget (pgb)
- In practice the bill goes to the administrator of the budget. We settle that with them directly.
For travel between home and work, UWV charges a contribution per kilometre that depends on your income; for a course of study it does not. The conditions and the application form are on the UWV page about taxi travel. If you are unsure which category your ride falls under, ask your arbeidsdeskundige — they know what has been granted in your case. If your situation is different again, do ring us on 0251 - 74 32 23.
Frequently asked questions
Can I stay seated in my wheelchair during the ride?
No. We drive ordinary saloon cars, without a ramp or a lift. You transfer into the car and the folded wheelchair comes along. If you have to be carried while seated in your wheelchair, you need a wheelchair-accessible van.
Will an electric wheelchair or a mobility scooter fit?
Those do not fold and so will not go in the boot. For a manual wheelchair that folds there is always room, even alongside suitcases.
Does travelling with a wheelchair cost extra?
No. To Schiphol the fixed price that belongs to your town, and within the area the ordinary fare. The driver helping, and a wheelchair coming along, cost nothing.
Do you drive to Schiphol with a wheelchair as well?
Yes, at the same fixed price. Say when you book that a wheelchair is coming, so the driver allows for the room and for the time getting in and out takes. On arrival we set you down at the departure hall.
How do I apply to UWV for a taxi travel allowance?
With the ‘Voorziening aanvragen’ form in Mijn UWV. You get an acknowledgement, then an arbeidsdeskundige discusses with you whether taxi travel is the best solution, and within eight weeks you hear whether the allowance is granted. If you are applying for a child under fourteen, you use the child’s DigiD; from fourteen the child applies themselves.
Can I arrange the same ride every week?
Give us a ring and we will see what is possible. For regular rides — to work, day care or treatment — we would rather make the arrangement over the telephone than through a form, because then it is clear straight away who collects you and at what time.
Shall we talk it through?
Ringing is usually easier here than booking: then we know in advance what is needed and the right car is at the door.
